External drives are now also made up of SSD’s, which gives its users a lot of power and performance muscle. We recently got our hands on the newly launched WD My Passport Go external SSD and this is what we could make of it. Out of the box, the WD My Passport Go external SSD seems like a chunkier version of a credit card. Yes, it is that small. Available in two colours Grey with Yellow band and Grey with Blue band, we reviewed the later. The coloured band is what makes this SSD rugged since that has hardened rubberised finish. Nothing will happen to your data inside even if the drive takes a fall of up to 6 feet. We tried it from 3-4 feet and nothing happened to its, not even a bump. Over that, all the data inside was intact. The WD My Passport Go external SSD comes with 500GB of storage space and the supports USB 3.0. The short cable comes attached to the SSD and one can neatly tuck it in behind the SSD. We loved the cable management system on this drive. So, quickly we put WD My Passport Go to the test. It comes with a simple plug and play function to transfer files. However, you can install its own software on Window or MAC called WD discovery. This helps you to backup data on the drive with ease. We ran HD Tune and it showed us transfer write speed of up to 250Mbps. So, in real-time, we transferred a 1GB file to it using USB 3.0. It transferred the file in under 5 seconds from the PC to the SSD. Which is great. Read speed according to HD Tune came out at 412Mbps. All in all, we loved the fact that WD My Passport Go external SSD is super compatible and easy to port. It hardly weighs anything and one can lug it around easily. Also, it is not bad to look at and comes in a trendy rugged shell. At a price of Rs 5,800, if you want to keep a lot of data safely with you or need a fast external drive with backup features, then your search has ended.
