The Redmi Note 7 was launched earlier this year and the discontinuation of the device only months after its launch seems odd and it comes as a surprise. The regular Redmi Note-series has been the main smartphone from Xiaomi Note lineup with its upgraded version launched as the Redmi Note Pro. Speaking about the reason for discontinuation of the Redmi Note 7, Xiaomi India’s Anuj Sharma Head of Marketing explains through a tweet, “More connected with lifecycle volumes than time. Sometimes planned volumes sell out faster than expected (way faster).” It should be noted that the Redmi Note 7 was launched in specifications that were not as powerful as its Chinese counterpart. the Redmi Note 7S is the original Note 7 launched in China months back. Xiaomi has released the Redmi Note 7S in India with a price tag costlier than the Redmi Note 7 but cheaper than the Redmi Note 7 Pro. It gives it a perfect selling point as it too comes with a 48MP camera. Other than that, the Redmi Note 7S comes in two RAM and storage variants. The device with 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage is priced at Rs 10,999 while the other with 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage costs Rs 12,999. The Redmi Note 7S will go on its first sale from May 23 onwards and it will be available on Flipkart, Mi.com and Mi Home Stores along with Mi Preferred partners.
Talking about the specifications of the Redmi Note 7S we see that it is an improved version of the Redmi Note 7. It sports a 6.3-inch Full HD+ (2340 × 1080 pixels) display. The newly launched smartphone is powered by the an octa-core Snapdragon 660 SoC clocked at 2.2GHz paired with up to 3GB/ 4GB RAM and 32GB/ 64GB of storage. The Redmi Note 7S also comes with microSD card support and it packs a 4,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4 support. similar to the original Redmi Note 7, the Redmi Note 7S also runs Android 9 Pie skinned with MIUI 10. On the camera front, the Redmi Note 7S features a dual-rear camera which comprises of a 48MP primary sensor paired with a 5MP secondary lens. On the front, there is a 13MP selfie camera. Other features of the camera of the Redmi Note 7S includes PDAF, EIS and AI Portrait Mode support.
