Global technology media has reported that the company has sent them a 10-second video invitation that shows a hand making sweeping motions above a white piece of paper only to finally reveal the message ‘Goodbye Touch’. According to Yonhap news agency, this points towards the fact that LG’s new user interface will enable users to operate its upcoming smartphone without physically touching it. From what we can guess, users will be able to control LG‘s new smartphone via gestures. Although LG hasn’t mentioned a specific device’s name in the video, according to the company’s officials the G7 ThinQ smartphone’s successor will be named LG G8 ThinQ.
According to a previous report, the South Korean technology company is expected to unveil a dual connected display screen at the upcoming Mobile World Congress. With this, it will become a part of the race of technology companies that have been targeting the premium smartphone market with new form factors. We should also mention that the company will be facing some competition from its local rival, Samsung Electronics, which has hinted that it may take wraps off its much-anticipated foldable phone on its February 20 event. Chinese smartphone brand Huawei is also expected to unveil a similar device soon. Coming back to LG’s plans, officials from the company have also said that the smartphone maker plans to unveil its 5G-enabled devices during its event. We should mention that LG has been working to gain back its position in the smartphone market because the company’s mobile division has been posting losses for almost two years now. While the premium segment of the smartphone market is dominated by Apple and Samsung, various Chinese players have captured the budget and mid-range segment. Amid this, it has been rather difficult for LG to maintain its stand in the smartphone market. For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
